Well, here we are.
I've toyed with blogs before but never really got off the ground with them for some reason. I think the convenience of plug-and-play platforms like WordPress didn't help; it made it feel like "Ah, I can update this at any stage... I'll do this later" - and then subsequently never getting around to it. Weird to explain, but that's just the way the cookie crumbles.
If you've followed me from my social media (particularly my Instagram), you'll know my goal is to become a lot less "terminally online" during 2026. There's a few steps already in motion to help with this:
- I picked up the HIBY R4 x EVANGELION digital audio player (now discontinued, link for posterity) to use as my daily driver for music. Music's a huge part of my life so I didn't mind spending a bit extra on a decent player.
- I have a flip phone, the Kyocera 902KC, arriving on Wednesday (at the time of writing this). This'll cut down on my smarphone usage as I won't be carrying it everywhere.
- I've a notebook that I'm carrying around when I'm out and about and using it to take notes for projects I'm working on.
- I'm working on getting a proper camera to use for taking shots - once I pay off some debts this will probably be the big priority.
So, what's the point of this, then?
Great question. All of the steps above are done with the intention of disengaging with the normal technological landscape in the wake of AI, and to try and put a bit more whimsy into my life. I hope that, by having a NeoCities page, the requirement of having to update and type these out manually will force me to put real thought into writing stuff online for people to see. I'm not going to promote this in any way on my main socials (so if you're a friend and you see this, hi!), but it'll be a nice little corner for me to just let out a stream of consciousness.
As for what we'll talk about? Well, that'll evolve as time goes on, but what I really want to do is use this space to write down musings about my return to music. If you're new here, I used to play in a pop-punk band called Crown The King before we officially disbanded last year. I took a bit of a break after that to deal with burnout and go to therapy, but now we're back at it. I'll need to vent about everything somewhere, and this seems like a good place to do it.
I'll never be able to fully disconnect from the current technological landscape; MMRS, the club night that I run, relies almost entirely on social media for promotion, and I'll still need to devote a fair bit of time to doing that. But I hope that between this, and the other stuff I've outlined above, I'll be able to disconnect more easily and find more time for myself. We'll see what happens.
